“SHOCKING” deficiencies in lifeboat training and continuing confusion over the multitude of different lifeboat release hooks being used on board ships are putting seafarers lives at risk. Preliminary results from a port state cont rol inspect ion campaign have revealed that one in five ships inspected had lifeboat drill-related deficiencies, many of them serious enough to warrant the ship being detained.
