The central information system "THETIS" provides data on ships particulars and reports of previous inspections carried out within the Paris MoU region. The database is hosted by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

A ship can be detained in case of deficiencies that are clearly hazardous to safety, health or the environment. After multiple detentions, failure to call at an indicated repair yard or a jumped detention ships can be refused access to any port in the region.
